Teleschool Consultant (Vision Impairment)

The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) provides quality and innovative services to achieve the best outcomes for current and future generations of Australians with vision and/or hearing loss.


RIDBC’s Teleschool provides an education and therapy program to children aged 0 to 18 years who live a significant distance from suitable specialist hearing impairment services. The program is delivered using a range of technologies including videoconferencing and website interactions.


We are currently seeking either a suitably qualified Teacher of Vision Impairment, Occupational Therapist or Orthoptist who would like to work in a distance education and multi-media environment on a temporary full time basis.


The successful applicant will be part of a supportive and highly motivated multidisciplinary team of teachers, speech pathologists, orthoptists and psychologists. Training is offered to suitable applicants who have no previous experience in remote service delivery but a predisposition to working in a multi-media environment is essential


Ideally, the successful applicant will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Teaching children with a vision impairment, Occupational Therapy or Orthoptics
  • Experience working with school age and/or young children.
  • Knowledge and experience of sensory impairment and additional/multiple disability is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience in braille.
  • An understanding of family centred practice.
  • Knowledge of Music Theory desirable.
  • A desire to work collaboratively with families and young children.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven organisational and time management skills
  • Strong appreciation for and understanding of technology as well as an aptitude for learning new skills
  • A current unrestricted NSW driver’s license.
