Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) provides quality and innovative services to achieve the best outcomes for current and future generations of Australians with vision and/or hearing loss.


Our aim is to ensure that children and adults with vision or hearing impairment are given equal access to communication, education, literacy, therapy and health services that will enable them to live a life where nothing holds them back.


As a charity RIDBC relies heavily on fundraising, corporate and community support to continue to make a difference for people with vision or hearing impairment, their families, and the professionals who support them.


We are currently seeking a suitably qualified Speech Pathologist or Teacher of Hearing Impairment who would like to work in a distance education and multi-media environment on a permanent part-time basis.


RIDBC Teleschool provides an education and therapy program to children aged 0 to 18 years who live a significant distance from suitable specialist hearing impairment services. The program is delivered using a range of technologies including videoconferencing and website interactions.


The successful applicant will be part of a supportive and highly motivated multidisciplinary team of Teachers, Speech Pathologists, Orthoptists and Psychologists. Training is offered to suitable applicants who have no previous experience in remote service delivery but a predisposition to working in a multi-media environment is essential.


Ideally, the successful applicant will have:

  • The relevant tertiary qualifications in speech pathology or teaching of hearing impairment.
  • Experience working with school age and/or young children.
  • Knowledge and experience of sensory impairment and additional/multiple disability is desirable whilst not essential.
  • Knowledge and experience in Alternative Augmentative Communication Systems is desirable but not essential and/or Proficient use of Auslan within a bilingual context is desirable but not essential
  • An understanding of family centred practice.
  • A desire to work collaboratively with families and young children.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong appreciation for and understanding of technology as well as an aptitude for learning new skills.
  • A current unrestricted NSW driver’s license.
